Content Writing Tools for SEO 2020

Keyword research tools

One of the things I didn’t realize years ago when I first started Blogging is how important keyword research is.

Back then, I would just think of any topic that comes to my mind, bring out my laptop, start typing and then hit the publish button.

Then, I’ll wait share my links on social media platforms waiting for visitors to start rushing in.

Yes, you guessed right.

I was disappointed. Poor old days.

I had no idea that there was anything like keyword competition/difficulty, search volume, keyword intent, short-tail/long-tail keywords, CPC. Nothing, I knew nothing!

Months passed and I learnt my lesson.

Today, the first thing I think of before I start writing is researching keywords that I can actually rank for.

With proper keyword research, I have been able to rank many blogs high on Google SERP for competitive and less-competitive keywords.

That being said, here are the best keyword research tools for SEO copywriting.

1. SEMRush

When it comes to keyword research, SEMRush is one of the leading names in the category.

You know what’s even better?

There are at least 3 keyword research tools in SEMRush that work in different ways.

Sounds crazy?

There is the Competitor keyword research tool that you can use to find out what keywords your competitor are ranking for, including the keywords that is bringing them most traffic.

In order to use this tool, all you have to do is head over to semrush.com and purchase for one of the plans.

You can also use the Keyword Magic tool to find keywords by starting from a seed keyword.

The Keyword Magic Tool is the most powerful keyword research tool on SEMrush.

It offers you access to an extended database with over 17 billion keywords and a streamlined interface for organizing research on the go.

Enter a single word or phrase into the search bar and you will receive a responsive table with related search terms broken down into topic-specific subgroups.

That’s not all.

There is a keyword gap tool. This one helps you to check what keywords your competitors (up to 5 at at time) have in common.

That way, you can know what your competitors are writing about and will help you channel your SEO effort in the right channel.

The prices can be seen below:

It isn’t a coincidence that this is making it to the list of content writing tools.

In fact, if you ask me, Ahrefs and SEMRush are the biggest keyword research tools on the internet right now.

And unlike SEMRush, you can get a fairly cheap deal with Ahrefs if you are on a budget with their $7 for 7days trial plan.

If you are looking to do keyword research with Ahrefs tool, then this guide has all you need to get started.

3. Ubersuggest

Answerthepublic is another free tool that will help you discover what people are searching for.

Some people use it as keyword research tool but I prefer to use it for content curation.

When you head over there, search for a keyword.

You will be amazed at how many keywords you can find with this tool.

7. Quora

Finding keywords is one thing, write a quality article on the keyword (s) is another thing.

In fact, if your content is going to suck, then you are better off not writing it at all.

Now, Quora as you may know it is a platform where questions are asked and answers are provided by multiple users.

Here’s how you can use Quora to curate content.

Let’s say you want to write on the topic “Healthy vegetarian diet“.

You can be sure that there are multiple answers on Quora regarding this already.

So, head over to Google.com and search for your topic + site:quora.com

When I searched for vegetarian diet site:quora.com, I get the result below.

All you have to do is to check all the relevant results.

On the first result page alone, there are over 70 answers available!

quora answers

NOTE: You shouldn’t do this in order to copy and paste. You should do this in order to get more insight and ideas into what’s right and what you could add.

I will leave you with 2 tips to check which answers/ideas you should follow on Quora.

  • First, check the profile page of the Author and be sure they have some level of expertise on the topic through their description and other related answers.
  • Look for top answers with high number of Upvotes.

8. Google

Before I start writing out contents, I check out all the pages that are ranking on first page for the focus keyword.

That way, I can know what people are writing about and most importantly, how to write a better topic without affecting the quality/search intent.

For example, when you check out all the top pages ranking for the topic, “Content writing tool for SEO”, they are listing out a few tools online.

Why don’t I categorize them instead for a better user experience?

So, I decided to write this post in categories based on keyword research tools, title/content analyzing tool, media resources tools and more.

9. Scoop.it

Scoop.it is a quick and easy way to curate content on a specific topic.

It is a free content curation tool that you can use to gather content ideas for your blog post.

10. YouTube

You should not be surprised that YouTube is on this list.

YouTube is filled with so much video resources on topics.

In fact, video marketing is becoming more and more popular than ever, and so you will almost find every topic that can be written as a blog post has also been published as a video.

YouTube is the second most popular social media platform.

According to stats by Tubefilter.com in 2019, 500 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute worldwide. That’s 30,000 hours of video uploaded every hour. And 720,000 hours of video uploaded every day to YouTube.

If you are looking out to create definite guides, then it will become necessary to know everything people search around the topic.

You can also use the topic + site:reddit.com Google query to find sub-reddits fast.

Media Resources Tools

Another thing that make a good quality content is media resources.

These are screenshots, embeds, infographics and other media resources that help your contents look richer.

If you have a budget for this, you can employ freelancers to do the job for you or you can do it yourself from scratch if you know how.

In this category, I am going to show you online media resources tools that will help you create beautiful images, infographics for your content.

12. Snappa

I personally love this online tool and use it a lot to create my Blog featured images, infographics, ebook cover, Facebook ad cover, banners, Twitter post and many more.

It is a simple drag and edit tool that will help you create beautiful and professional looking images in no time, without any prior knowledge of graphics!

All templates have been pre-designed and all you need to do is to edit it to fit with your topic/content.

13. Canva

Canva is another popular online tool for graphics, presentations, posters and other visual contents.

You can use it to create amazing infographics and other types of graphics.

The best part?

It is completely free!

14. Free Stock Image Websites

I decided not to mention any particular website here because there are so many of them, and I think it will be unncessary to start listing each one of them separately when there are many other SEO content writing tools I still have to mention.

Some of them include:

  • Unsplash.com
  • Shutterstock.com
  • Pixabay.com
  • Pexels.com
  • Freeimages.com

Just head over to any of these websites and you will find hundreds of thousands of free stock images that you can use in your blog posts without any copyright issue!

Image Optimizing Tools

15. Smush Plugin

Speed is becoming more and more important when it comes to SEO.

If you are the type that likes to use many graphics in your contents, then you are going to have to compress your images in order to prevent them from slowing down your blog post.

From what I have seen, SMUSH is the best freemium plugin you can use to compress all your images from your WP Admin dashboard.

And if you have already uploaded hundreds/thousands of images in your blog posts already, you can still Bulk smush them in one-click without replacing them.

16. TinyPNG

Smush plugin will help you compress your images but will not do that as much as you really can.

With TinyPNG tool, you can compress your images by over 50% (can be as high as 90%).

Although, there can be a bit difference in quality, but the changes will not be so large compared to the SEO advantage.

Title and Content Analyzing Tools

Want to know one of the biggest mistakes bloggers make?

Writing blog posts before the headlines (aka post titles).

Without a headline, they have no roadmap to follow. And so their post goes in multiple directions, leaving readers feeling dizzy, confused and disoriented.

17. CoSchedule Headline Analyzer

A good content without a good title will greatly reduce your Click-Through-Rate and hurt your SEO.

content title analyzing tool

If you want to write amazing titles that people can’t help but click, then you need to write out a list of different titles.

Then, go ahead to CoSchedule headline analyzing tool and enter each title, you will see suggestions on how to improve your title based on the analyses scores.

18. Yoast SEO Plugin

This is the most used SEO plugin currently and it is also my personal favourite.

With the plugin, you can access to free real-time content analysis that will help you improve your on-page SEO and write optimized content (especially if you are just started out).

This plugin will check and give you suggestions on Keyword density, Text length, Keyphrase in subheading, Keyword length, keyword in title, Image ALT text, outbound links and many more.

There is also a free readability check tool (although I will advise that you do not stress yourself too much over this).

19. RankMath

RankMath is a Yoast alternative for writing SEO-optimized contents.

RankMaths WordPress SEO plugin is becoming one of the most popular SEO plugins.

In fact, it has its own advantages over Yoast SEO (it has free featured that are only available on Yoast Premium version).

For example, you can use RankMath content analyses tool to target up to 5 keywords.

In fact, some SEO experts are saying they now prefer it over Yoast SEO plugin.

There is a free migration tool that helps you move from other SEO tools (Yoast, All-in-one SEO plugin) without losing any data.

20. All-in-one Yoast SEO

This is alternative to Yoast and RankMath plugin.

It also offers content analyzing features, XML sitemaps and more amazing features.

But, if you ask me, Yoast is still the best.

However, it is up to you to check them out and determine which you want to use.

NB: You cannot use 3 SEO plugins at once, you can only use one.

Grammar Check Tool

Nobody wants to land on a page and start seeing chunk of texts that are not even appealing.

21. Grammarly

Grammarly is the most popular and the most recommended grammar check tool online.

It is no surprise that it is making it to this list of content writing tools for SEO.

The only issue with Grammarly is that the premium version comes at a price and if you want to get the full features, you just have to get the premium version.

Personally, I do not use grammar check tools while writing my contents because I’m pretty sure I know what I’m doing.

Either ways, it is a great addition to your SEO content writing tools.
